What kind of facility is National Shinshutakato Youth Outdoor Learning Center?

National Shinshutakato Youth Outdoor Learning Center is an experiential learning facility located in “Harugamine Plateau” with breathtaking views of the Southern Alps, Central Alps, and the Yatsugatake Mountains. This facility is designed to nurture good health and a rich spirit of the youth who will lead the next generation. It comes the catchphrase, “Let’s discover the richness of nature! Think about it! Taste it! Have fun!”

Is this available to everyone?

The facility is open to groups of two or more people, groups, families, and anyone of any age, from children to adults, who has a designated adult leader and a specific training plan. However, political education and other political activities supporting or opposing a particular political party, religious education and other religious activities supporting or opposing a particular religion, and activities solely for profit are prohibited.

How can this facility be used?

The facility is available for various purposes: Nature experiences (hiking/observation), creative activities and seminars. We also have a piano and this facility is perfect for your coir or brass band camp. It is also available for meetings and training sessions. We offer free rental of projectors and video players. Please feel free to contact us.

What do I need to do to use this facility?

First, please check availability by phone or on our website. After checking availability by phone or on our website, please fill out the online form on our website to apply. We will contact you regarding the availability once we confirm your application. Reservations for the following period for families and general groups of 20 people or less (except schools and youth organization) are available from 2 months in advance.

Are there any days when the facility is not available?

The facility is not available during the year-end and the New Year holidays (28 December to 4 January) and the maintenance day for the facility. Please check on the reservation status.

Can I use the facility on a day trip?

Day-use is also possible as long as it does not interfere with other groups staying in the facility. Please note that we may not be able to accommodate walk-in groups depending on usage condition. *Please call us to confirm before using.

How much is the usage fee?

For details, please see the usage fees. There is no facility fee for day-use, but training material fees may apply depending on your activities.

What payment methods do you accept?

Please select one of the following payment methods for facility fees, activity Program instruction fee and outdoor cooking facility fees: Cash, Bank transfer, Convenience store payment, Electronic payment. Payment for meals and other expenses will be made in cash or by bank transfer to the canteen’s designated account.

By when do I need to inform you of any changes in number of participants?

1) Cancellation fees for usage of the canteen apply for any cancellations or changes in the number of participants made after 15:00 on the day before the meal. *Please note that a cancellation fee may apply to substantial reduction in the number of participants, even before 15:00 on the day prior to your scheduled arrival. 2) Cancellation fees apply for any cancellations or changes to the number of participants for bento box, outdoor cooking, and ingredients for food culture experience made after 17:00 one week prior to the pickup date. *The holiday period is not limited to the dates mentioned above (Golden week, Obon holiday, the year-end and the New Year holidays)

What to pack for a stay? (Overnight packing list)

We do not provide toiletries such as toothbrushes, pyjamas, or hairdryers. Please bring your own items. You can keep your shoes on inside the main building. Shoes are not allowed in the accommodation building, play hall, craft room, Seseragi Hall, and Karamatsu Hall. Please bring your own indoor shoes. Rinse-in shampoo and body soap are provided in the bath area.

Can I choose my room?

In order to accommodate as many people as possible, we are unable to accept specific room requests. Thank you for your understanding. Please inform us in advance if you are a wheelchair user.

Are there any convenience stores near the facility?

The nearest convenience store is about a 30-minute drive away. Daily necessities are also available at the shop n the building.

Is there a hospital near the facility?

It takes about 40-50 minutes by car to the nearest hospital. Please contact the administrative office if you need hospital service. Our staff will reach out to each hospital. Please report to the office to give an update once your treatment is completed.

Is smoking allowed?

There is a designated smoking area outside the building (on the left side after exiting the entrance in front of the play hall).

Is there a TV?

The main purpose of Outdoor Learning Center is to provide various experiential activities in a non-routine, natural environment. Therefore, no televisions are provided in the accommodation building. However, We have one unit installed in the lounge of the main building.

Can I take a bath anytime?

The large public bath is open from 17:20 to 21:30. Please note that bath times will be adjusted by our staff based on the number of groups.

Where can I keep my valuables?

Coin lockers are available in the luggage storage area and in front of the bathrooms in the main building. (A 100-yen coin is required , but will be returned after use.)

Can I bring my pet?

We kindly ask that you do not bring pets. Please contact us in advance if you are accompanied by a guide dog, hearing dog or service dog.

Can I bring my own ingredients for outdoor cooking ?

We kindly ask that you do not bring in any outside food or ingredients to ensure food safety. However, regarding rice and vegetables, bringing them in may be permitted only if they are grown in the school garden or similar facilities. Please contact us in advance if you wish to do so.
